A bit about tile

Tile is manufactured using clay, or a mixture of clay, sand and natural minerals. They are then shaped, molded, and placed in a very hot kiln at least once, twice if glazed. Porcelain is a little denser and more resistant to water and is the hardest material of this type that you can get.

In addition to the benefits already mentioned, it is also the most hygienic of all flooring materials, resistant to both wear and tear and high temperatures, and it is very easy to maintain. It makes a great addition to bathrooms, especially showers.

Tips for using tile in the shower

The main concern about shower flooring should be slip resistance. You can purchase the flooring that has a special nonslip glaze already applied, and will help to avoid the possibility of accidents in the shower. The other option would be to have a slip-resistant application applied to the ceramic or porcelain.

You’ll also want to speak to your flooring professional about the submergibility of your flooring. Since it’s going to be used in the shower, it should be rated as if it will be submerged, because it’s going to be more subjected to water than most ceramic or porcelain normally would be.

If you’re not fond of cleaning, you should choose larger slabs, which are much easier than the types used for mosaics. The smaller the pieces, the more grout cleaning you’ll have to do, so it’s definitely important to keep this in mind when choosing your tile.
